Tillie and Teddy's Room To Do List
This is a work in progress. I hope to have the "big" items done by August, but I know it will be awhile until everything is completed to my liking.

Little Sister's Nursery
We haven't done any work on this as Ted is still using the room, but I think I made some decisions about what direction we're going. The "theme" will be nature, but more pretty/bunny nature than Ted's explorer/camp nature room. (This was Karissa's idea. Thank you! I think it's what I wanted to do, but wanted her to have her own "theme".)
Here's a really crappy polyvore of what we're planning. No, her name will not be Harper, but once she's here and we decide we'll hang her name on a branch like that. I also plan on making the "You Are My Sunshine" wall art. The only things I'm hoping to purchase are a bin/basket for blankets and a 5x7 art print for on one of the shelves. I'll be in Chicago this summer so I'll check the Land of Nod Outlet then for a bin/basket as there are a couple I like on their website. I'm undecided on the art print, but this one by trafalgarssquare on Etsy is a strong contender. I'll be watching for a coupon code or Zulily sale.
This picture makes it seem like it will be pink-pink-pink, but with green walls/curtains, a yellow crib and a white changing table I think the pink will be balanced out. (And hey, I had the rug and the changing pad was $2.61 on Amazon. I'm going for as inexpensive as possible!)
If you have any additional ideas or directions I should go in, let me know!

Nursery Decor
I'm having a hard time coming up with a "theme" for BabyGirl's nursery. Tillie's was "vintage-y". Teddy's was "nature-y". It's weird to me, but since the last two rooms I've done have been after the kids were here, it's hard to come up with something without knowing her personality. I LOVED both of their rooms, so I want to love this one too.
I'm limited by the budget, which is best described as "spend as little as possible". If I had no budget, I'd have ordered these Land of Nod strawberry sheets a month ago. (Which would have been good, since they're now sold out and not even an option anyway.) I'd get new yellow eyelet curtains and paint the walls, possible a pretty blue, or maybe white with a chair rail. I'd definitely order this print for her wall. I think it would all look darling with our yellow jenny lind crib.
But, that would involve more work that we have time for and definitely more money. So instead I went to the Pottery Barn Outlet to see what I could find on sale. Before I went I was leaning towards a yellow, green and lavender color palette. Well, they didn't have anything that went with that idea. I ended up with two different sheets. ($7 &$12, woo hoo!) One is pink and white paisley with birds, the other is a lot of colors with birds, owls and trees. They alone make this room a lot cheaper because I can reuse a lot of things we already have on hand.
Now, where do I go from here? I'm starting to come around to the green, pink, yellow color palette. Tillie's nursery was mainly yellow, red, blue, green with a little pink, so it is different while still having the same base of green walls, yellow crib and green curtains. Tillie had a neutral rug, but I'll be able to "steal" the pink stripe rug she has in her room now since it's a little too pink for a room that Ted will be sharing. I like how these all go together, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the decor.
I spent a lot of time this week pinning possible ideas, but with the sheets I bought, the only "theme" that I can come up with is "Trees & Birds". While that's fine, it just seems so overdone. I think every other nursery when I was pregnant with Tillie had an owl theme. Don't get me wrong, I love owls, but it's just not what I really had in mind. Here are some of the things I've found, but I definitely don't love it as much as the strawberry idea.
I know my favorite color is pink, but I didn't set out to have such a pink room for this girl. I'll be able to use all the colors on her name on the wall(when we decide on one!), so that should help the pink-ness. Anyone have any other directions to take this?

Teddy's Nursery
Remember how last March I gave you a sneak peek of Ted's "redecorated" room. Well, I bought the Ikea run in August and finally took pictures of the whole room today. Besides the rug, everything else has been done since the end of April.
This link should get you to all the pictures on facebook.

Matchy-Matchy
Two and a half years ago I made Tillie a size 2t tulip popover pinafore. (Oy. What was I thinking with those mullet pigtails!??!)
This spring I decided her doll Aggie needed some clothes that fit her. She wears Ikea doll clothes usually, but they really all are too big. I found this popover style doll pattern and realized I still had enough tulip fabric left to make one. I quickly sewed it up, waiting for me to buy some hook and loop. Today Tillie wanted to take Aggie to the park and I remembered the work in progress. I had bought some Velcro, but I couldn't find it. Instead I did buttonholes and buttons. I hate sewing buttons. Buttonholes are kind of fun!
Also thankfully my girl is slim and popovers are forgiving -- she can still wear the 2t! I also made Aggie a coordinating diaper, but you can't see it in the pictures. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a picture of that and add it in here.

Crafty Projects
I had the person who runs the Camp store and does a variety of other things at Camp in the summer. I heard him say that this year's staff shirt was his favorite thing he's ever done, so I decided to use one to make a dress for his daughter! I hid it from Tillie the whole time I was working on it, but the day of the party I wanted to use her as a model for the photos. "Oh! I've never worn that one before!" When I told her we were going to give it to Chloe she said, "Oh... okay."
I took the shirt with me to the store to try to find fabric to match, but there just wasn't anything that looked good. The neon was hard to match. Then I remembered I still had this nature-y fabric from when I made Tillie a dress 2 years ago. It's a great match! The lettuce edge was a new things I've never done before, but it turned out really cute. I'll definitely try it on Tillie's dress next year. (Tillie's pose makes it look puckery in the front. It's not.)

Macaroni Patterns
Today when I picked Tillie up from TLC at church she was wearing a pasta necklace. She excitedly told me something right away, but I didn't really listen because I was trying to get her to say thank you and give her the star cookie I picked for her. When we got to Tim he noticed the necklace and admired it. I said, it looks pretty good, you can kind of see a pattern even. To which Tillie replied, "I did make a pattern Mom!"
Sure enough. She did. An ABCC pattern, which wasn't even one we practiced. You can see where her supplies must have run out of the colors she needed so she started a new one.
This makes me so happy.

Ruffle Shorties
Are they well made? No, not really. But they should last her the summer. This week I found some co-ops where you can order some for under $10, but I hate how long co-ops take. I'm certainly tempted though! I'll probably just end up making her two more pairs in navy and red to complete some other outfits I have in mind.
Tillie loves them, so they're definitely a win. (Please excuse my daughter's blindingly white legs. It's been winter for the past 10 months or so.)

Easter Eggs
About 2 weeks ago Tillie asked me if we could make Easter Eggs. I told her no because we didn't have the supplies. Thus every day she would ask me, "Did you get the eggsupplies yet?" It kind of sounded like extra surprise and I had no idea what she was talking about for the first few days. Finally we saw a PAAS commercial together and I figured it out. I tried to play it off because I never remember dying eggs to be a good experience. Plus, I don't like large cups of clothes staining liquid around my kids clothes.
But, then we were at Target with my mom last week and I happened upon the Easter section. The Egg dye cups came home with us. Finally today I said ,"yes." She may have been a little excited.
When I asked her what her favorite color was she pointed to each of them individually.
She had Tim write an 'M' on an egg for her that she wanted to go in the pink dye. As I was writing an 'A' on my egg she pointed, touched, and tipped over the purple dye(in a green cup) down the side of the cupboard.
Oh, and it also landed on her brother who was still wearing his church clothes from this morning
After a big clean-up session we finished the eggs. Tim declared that egg decorating with the kids would be his job. I said I'd rather blow out the yolks and paint them. We'll see what we actually do next year.

Teddy's Room - Sneak Peek
Here's a sneak peek of what I've been working on.
So far we've spent $11 -- 2 sets of sheets and "lighting". Most of the items have been repurposed from other spaces in the house. One of the things I need to complete the room is from Ikea(which is also the priciest addition to the room), so I don't know when it will be finished. Teddy LOVES the paper garland. We put it up yesterday and he smiles and points at it whenever we walk into his room.

Easter Outfits
Now, I should probably wait until Easter to "unveil" their new duds, but I'm too excited. I had an outfit planned for Teddy for Easter that I was super-excited about. But all of a sudden last week I was starting to rethink myself. Was it too dark for a happy spring holiday? What if it was crazy hot like it would have been last year? And, I kind of really wanted to sew another pair of longalls since it's probably his last Easter for them.
So, like any person would do, I made a poll on facebook! At first it seemed like his bow tie outfit would win, but in the end there was a lot of support for longalls. I went to the fabric store that night and the very next day I finished them!
I love the anchor buttons. I thought about lining them in navy, but I decided to match the blue to the flowers in Tillie's dress. There's only so long that they'll let me do this! The aqua is a linen blend and the royal is Kona cotton. I made the 18m size and they're a little big. Maybe Teddy will have a growth spurt this month? (fingers crossed.)
Tillie's dress was my dress when I was little. Even better? My mom made it for me! I love that both kiddos will be wearing hand-made items this Easter.
Here's the proof that it was mine. Here I am with my brother, Philip. I know there are better pictures of the dress, but I couldn't find them yesterday. If you look closely you can see my baby ring as a necklace. Hopefully I'll remember to do that with Tillie's. I gave her a blue ribbon sash instead of red so it would coordinated with Teddy better. She's going to wear a red cardigan though.

The Prince & Princess of Fall
I made Tillie and Teddy some crowns yesterday. This was the first photo shoot that Tillie was ALL. ABOUT. Well, until it came to looking at the camera when Teddy was. Teddy? He just wanted to play with the leaves.
They're still beautiful.

We Celebrated
Tomorrow my little guy turns one, but we celebrated the occasion on Sunday night.
I'd say it seems like yesterday he still looked like this, but that's not true. It hasn't been a long year, but it has been a year of changing and growing, pretty much all for good. He's fun.
Family and friends came out to party, eat food and lavish him with presents. (At least that's what it felt like. Tillie was overjoyed with all the new toys -- and she didn't even have to say thank you to anyone!)
And, what would a birthday party be without cupcakes?

National Sewing Month
September was National Sewing Month and I actually did more sewing than I'd done all year! I made the book sling, bunting and a dress for a friend's daughter. No, not a lot, but it was still an improvement over every other month this year.
The dress was one of my favorites. Shortly after I graduated college Urban Outfitters graphic tees were all the rage. I had a number of them. In August when I was getting ready for my garage sale I came across one of them that never made the donate/sell pile. I took one look at it and knew exactly what I was going to do with it. Mabel was getting an upcycle for her birthday.*
I went with a simple color-blocking style. Currently trendy, and little room for mistakes. I considered some ruffles, but I kind of like the mod look.
I made Tillie try it on to make sure I didn't have any crazy sizing errors.
It's a 2t, so it's a little short for Tillie. The good news is that it also looks cute with leggings!

Book Sling - Finally
Today I finally can cross off the last item on the "To Do Before Baby Comes" list. *ahem* Yes, I do realize Teddy is 11.5 months old.
I made her a book sling using this tutorial. Honestly, the tutorial is a little confusing. It's easy to sew, but I was a little confused as to which way the fabric was suppose to go. I think a few more pictures would help it. (I'm also tired because of a little guy who woke up early with a runny nose, so it could be that.) Either way, it was super-easy and I'm a little embarrassed it took this long. I also sewed the bunting this week so all that's left is some more artwork on the wall and her room will be finished. I'll make a full post on her room when that happens. Don't hold your breath...
Anyway, Tillie LOVES it. As we were putting it up she said, "Oh, that's my new LIBRARY!?" After I loaded it up with books she got busy with a piece of paper and a marker and I heard her say, "I'm a library girl." (Nevermind that she has a bookshelf below her night stand and books with book ends on top of her dresser. Now that I added a book sling and put 4 books in it she has a library.)
Teddy is also a fan. He adores playing on Tillie bed and thinks this is a great addition.
As I was sitting on the bed with Teddy I asked Tillie if she knew where Teddy's blanket was. She turned around and replied, "It's here on the floor in my library."

Silhouette Update
I made it. I followed this tutorial. I'm going to make a new one though.
I followed the tutorial and painted the canvas white before I began. I didn't have vinyl, so I used Contact paper. Those two things together weren't the best mix. The Contact paper worked well and didn't let the paint under it. However, I think it stuck too well because it pulled up two chunks of white paint when I peeled it up. You can't see it in the picture, but they're pretty noticeable when you're in the room with it. Moreover, "Brilliant Pink" is a lot more like "Dark Fushia-Like-Pink" than the sample on the top of the bottle. It's not the color I was hoping for.
I'll be making a new one without the white paint(the canvas I bought at Hobby Lobby was pretty white to begin with anyway) and with a different pink paint. I'm hoping the little strands of hair I cut out will work better on the next one too. Some of the pink paint peeled off with the Contact paper.
It was a pretty easy project. We also toyed with the idea of painting the canvas pink and using pretty scrapbook paper. (Hello coordinating Sarah Jane paper!) That's the plan if the next one doesn't work well.
We also finally hung the two Sarah Jane prints I bought last May. Next project will be the bunting. Hopefully the book sling will happen soon after than, but probably not too soon. I've been working more often lately and still have to pack for Memorial Day weekend. And Camp. My goodness. I'm not ready for summer to start.

Teddy's Easter Preview
I bought Tillie's Easter dress last fall, the day before Teddy was born. Earlier this year I bought Teddy a crewcuts argyle cashmere cardigan on eBay. It's darling. When I told Tim I bought our spitty-up baby a cashmere sweater he replied, "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard." He's got a point.
At first I was looking for a baby button down and tiny khaki pants. I wasn't finding what I was looking for and came to the conclusion that I need to find longalls for him. He'll probably spend every Easter for the rest of his life in khaki pants, I might as well embrace the JonJon/rompers while I still can. I looked around for cute ones, but they were all a little more than I wanted to spend. Finally I decided to make them myself. I found a great pdf pattern. I found a green solid that is very close in color to the cardigan for the lining and chose a tan cotton/linen blend for the outer.
I can't wait for him to wear it. Right now it's way too long, but it's still a month until Easter and he's sure to grow. I added extra length so that I could fold up the cuffs.
He'll wear a plain white bodysuit under it all, along with some classic white baby shoes I got at a consignment sale. They even have silver bells tied on the laces. Tillie calls them, "Teddy's Jingle Shoes." That made me love them even more. I bought the green buttons I need to add today.

Silk Ring Sling
This summer I wrote about how I lost my ring sling. Since it had been so long and I didn't think I would ever see that one again I started researching ring slings. My mom mentioned it as an idea for a Christmas present, so I researched even more. I decided I wanted a sling one, but I just couldn't decide where to order it from. I posted on facebook asking for reviews/opinions and my friend Hope suggested that I make my own. I had considered it in the past, but right after Teddy was born I was at the phase where I was sure I would never have time to sew again.
I thought about it some more, researched patterns and decided to go for it. I went to Field's and bought some cream silk dupioni, ordered rings from slingrings.com and let it all sit on my kitchen table for a week. Now we get to the interesting part.
My friend Laura has twins and needed to use a single stroller for an event she was going to to. She asked if she could use my Graco stroller, and I happily agreed. It's been in storage in our garage since Tillie was 17 months and I was glad to see it get some use. I meant to sell it on craigslist this summer to fund my double stroller, but it seemed like too much work at the time. When I pulled the stroller open, I gasped. Wouldn't you know it, but my cream and blue ring sling was in the bottom basket! All I had to do was buy fabric for my new sling and I found my old one.
Well, I still had all the supplies for a new sling so I decided to make it anyway. I decided on the overlapping pleats for the shoulder and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I used my serger to make a rolled hem along the edges so I wouldn't have to hem them all. If I had to hem all the sides of 2 yards it never would have gotten done.
I even added a decorative stitch so it's extra-fancy!
