I had planned on making Tillie a birthday outfit, but as all my free time was taken up sewing Kizie's Dutch costume I wasn't sure I would get it done. Last week Thursday I had most of the costume done, so I decided to go to the store and pick out some fabric to make Tillie a skirt. I washed and ironed it on Friday. Saturday morning, on her birthday, I got started.
I used MADE's Simple Skirt double layer skirt tutorial. I made a few changes. I used the less bulky method two, but instead of sewing the serged fabric down I just left it up. Takes less time that way. I also used my serger to put a rolled hem. Again, faster than a folded hem. And, I liked the idea of the light pink contrast.
As I finished I realized, I must have measured something wrong because this was going to be a short skirt. I had a few errands to run so I added Field's to the list so I could buy eyelet to add to the bottom to lengthen it. I think making it too short at first was a great mistake because it's just darling with the eyelet!
I also stopped at Target so I could find a top to match the skirt. I was thinking pale yellow would be cute, but they didn't have any. I ended up buying a white tee with a white fabric flower on it. It would be sweet, but not what I was planning for this occasion.
As I was driving home I remembered a yellow polka-dot tee I bought at a garage sale last year. It had been a rainy afternoon and I didn't notice the stains on it when I bought it. Perfect for a party where she's sure to get dirty! I appliqued a "2" on it using the template from Crap I've Made. Then I added a cute green heart button to the top and skirt. Why not?
I'm a little bit in love with the outfit.

So cute, the eyelet makes it even more so! Thanks for the link, I might try my hand at another skirt. That first I made was way to big.
