Car Seats of the Convertible Variety

After a lot of research this winter, I decided that the car seat I wanted to get Tillie was the Graco MyRide 65.  I had picked out a cute gray and purple print.  I figure this is one thing that I could get super-girly because Tillie would be the only one to use it.  (Car seats have a 5 year expiration date.)

Tillie's current carseat, the Graco SnugRide32 has a weight limit of 32lbs and a height limit of 32".  We're no where near the weight limit, but that 32" is slowly creeping up on us.  During the middle of January, I decided to watch for sales on the MyRide.

Yesterday I looked it up on various sites to see the prices.  No sales, but what I did notice was that it was out of stock at most places -- Target, Amazon, Albee Baby, etc.  I conferred with an internet friend who is a carseat guru.  I was worried that there was something wrong with it causing it to be discontinued.  Nope, it's just that popular.  I knew that Babies R Us has them when I was there last weekend.  Since I had a 20% off coupon and was having dinner at Applebee's with Dykho, I decided to see if they had any in stock.  They did!  They had three!  A worker kindly helped me get one down from the high, high shelf and met me at the checkout.

This was great, until I got to my car and realized it would fit in the backseat, trunk or front seat without me taking it out of the box.  Oops.  I took it out of the box, folded the box flat in the front seat and put the car seat in the trunk.

I picked this one because it's a great price, rear faces to 40lbs and front faces to 65lbs.  It also has a higher back, which is good, because it seems like Tillie will be pretty tall.  Bonus is that it has two cup holders!

Tillie seems to like it!
I'll probably wait to switch her to this til it warms up a bit.  I enjoy keeping her snug under a blanket in her infant seat while moving from car to cart.  The Manufacture date is January 28, 2010.  Sweet!  Tillie should be rockin' this seat til January 2015.

A lot of people will say that Britax makes the best car seats.  And, a few years ago, they did.  So far, they haven't release a convertible that rear faces to 40lbs.  Also good to remember is that all car seats have to pass the same safety tests.  It's either pass/fail.

I saw that. Target is sold out of the cute print though. With my coupon, it was the same price, or around $2 more/less.
